| Making Sense of “Social Entrepreneurship”

One of the buzzwords in development circles these days is "social entrepreneurship". A lot of people are looking at social entrepreneurship as a possible solution to various social problems. And a number of people claim that they are social entrepreneurs or do social entrepreneurship.
As the discourse on social entrepreneurship grows, it is becoming increasingly clear that the term means different things to different people. And it is also becoming clear that a lot of people are not conscious of the fact that these differences in definitions exist.
There are at least five ways in which the term social entrepreneurship is used: social innovations, ngos as social enterprises, community enterprises, bottom-of-the-pyramid activities, and corporate social integration. Read More

| Spotlight on Social Entrepreneurship |
The Ateneo de Manila University Development Studies Program and the Philippine Social Enterprise Network will host a Conference on Social Entrepreneurship from September 17 - 18, 2009 at the Ateneo Loyola Heights campus.
Dubbed, “Negosyo para sa iba, Negosyong kakaiba, Negosyo ka nga ba?” the conference will examine the different dimensions of social entrepreneurship and its impact on poverty. It will also showcase different successful models of social enterprises and introduce the Social Entrepreneurship Quality Index (SEQI), a useful benchmark for social enterprises. Read More |
